In Your Opinion, Is There Any Difference Between The "N" Word Spelled With An "er" And Spelled With An "a"?

The inner city people and the hip hop community have embrassed this word as a term of endearment or a word that is pretty much standard. Do you think changing the spelling from "N***er" to "N***a" makes it more acceptable to use? Can you really take a derogatory term and turn it into something endearing? Or is the "N" word still the "N" word, no matter how to spell it or what context you use it in?
